Markets trade on a weak note

Markets opened higher following firm Asian peers and positive sentiment built in after commodity prices eased last week. However investors booked profit in the morning session after the steep rally on Friday.

The Nifty touched a high of 5586 in opening trades, but was unable to hold on to the gains and was trading at 5554, down 1 point and the Sensex was trading flat at 18,538, up 13 points.

Foreign Institutional Investors continued to remain net sellers, they sold shares worth Rs 655 crore on Friday, while DIIs were net buyers of Rs 1,081.04 in equities. FIIs have been net sellers of Indian equities since April 25 and have sold Rs 7032.63 in the past 10 trading sessions.

The markets have slipped a wee bit, with rate sensitives' like some banks and auto stocks seeing some selling pressure.
