RBI surprises with 50 bps rate cut

India's central bank cut interest rates on Tuesday for the first time in three years by an unexpectedly sharp 50 basis points to give a boost to flagging economic growth. The RBI cut its policy repo rate to 8.00 percent.

The RBI raised rates 13 times between March 2010 and October 2011.

To look at oil, GDP for April decision: RBI

"There are oil prices, there is the growth story. All of these things will be taken into consideration when we make a decision on what we will or will not do on 17th of April" said RBI's deputy governor Subir Gokarn on Friday in a post-budget media interaction.

RBI leaves repo, reverse repo rates & CRR unchanged

RBI left interest rates unchanged on Thursday, citing concern over resurgent inflation risks, even as economic growth remains sluggish.

The Reserve Bank of India kept its policy repo rate on hold at 8.50 percent, as had widely been expected. It also kept the cash reserve ratio unchanged at 4.75 percent after cutting it by 75 basis points on Friday in a surprise out-of-cycle move

RBI hikes repo rate by 25 bps to 8.50%

RBI has raised the benchmark interest rates by quarter of a percent point on Tuesday, while keeping cash reserve ratio (CRR) rate unchanged, reverse repo now stands at 7.5%.

The RBI has revised its fiscal year 2012 GDP growth projection downwards to 7.6%. However, it has kept its March-end inflation projection unchanged at 7%.

Benchmark interest rates raised by 25 bps

The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday raised its benchmark rates by 25 basis points to 7.50 per cent, hiked reverse repo rates by 25 bps to 6.50 per cent in a move to arrest surging inflation in Asia's third largest economy.

Inflation rose higher than expected in the month of May. The WPI rose an annual 9.06 per cent pressuring RBI to tighten monetary policy further and at the same time arresting India's growth in the process. Higher borrowing costs, rising input prices and strict banking rules will make it hard for companies to take credit and in turn impede production activity going forward.

RBI credit policy: Repo, reverse repo rates hiked by 25 bps

The repo and reverse repo rates were hiked by 25 bps to 6.75 per cent and 5.75 per cent, respectively. CRR was left unchanged at 6%. RBI hiked interest rates for the eighth time since last March.
